Whole Foods Weekly Ad Match-ups 3/7-3/13

Important notes about Whole Foods:

  • These prices are based on the Jacksonville, FL store. Sale items, prices and even the weekly sale dates vary regionally. You might find these sales in other regions, and other Florida stores are more likely to have the same sales, but I can’t be certain.
  • You can find your weekly sales ad here, but there are also MANY unadvertised deals in the store.
  • Many of their sale prices last for two weeks. So, if you miss something one week, you might still be in luck the next week.
  • Most, but not all Whole Foods stores, will allow “stacking” one manufacturer’s coupon AND one store coupon per item. The Jacksonville store does allow this! Check with you store’s customer service desk if you live in another area.
  • Whole Foods’ store coupons can be found online here or in “Whole Deal” booklets in stores. TIP: The coupons expire one month after they are no longer available online, so print a few extra copies to use throughout next month too! These are also handy if your local Publix store accepts Whole Foods competitor coupons.
  • Bring your own reusable bags for .10 off your total (per bag used), or donate that amount to their Whole Planet Foundation.
  • If any of the terms used below don’t make sense to you, check out my post about understanding coupon lingo.
  • If any math doesn’t make sense or any links don’t work, please let me know so I can fix it.  :)

Weekly Totals: $91.63 in Groceries for $39.33 & $100 in Gas for $80!

This is a weekly series where I show you how much I save on my grocery and household needs, including as many natural and organic items as possible.

This was a weird week, resulting in two separate trips to Publix.  The first time I went for some baking supplies for Valentine’s Day cupcakes and a couple of sale items and essentials.  The second trip was for a few more sale items, including some great sale prices on organic produce.

Publix had their great in-ad coupon available again, for $10 off a $50 gas gift card wyb(when you buy) $25 or more in groceries.  Both times I was buying enough to qualify for the gas card deal, so I bought one with each purchase.  I spent only $40 on each gift card for a total savings of $20 on gas.  The costs and savings for the gift cards are not included in the totals below since that is gas money rather than grocery money.

Here’s what I bought this week at Publix in my first trip:

  • 2 Almond Breeze almond milk half-gallons
  • 2 Tam-x-ico whole wheat tortillas
  • 3.27 lbs bananas
  • 1 YoBaby organic yogurt 4-pack
  • 1 Publix shortening (for cupcake frosting…it makes frosting less appetizing doesn’t it?)
  • 1 Publix confectioners sugar 2 lbs (also for cupcake frosting)
  • 4 Wet Ones antibacterial wipes
  • 2 Duncan Hines cake mixes
  • 1 Publix cling wrap
  • 1 dozen Publix eggs

Total before sales and coupons: $45.19

Savings break-down:
Store and competitor coupons used: $5.00
Manufacturer’s coupons used: $1.80
Savings from sale prices: $9.35
Free $10 gift I earned last week: $10.00

Total after sales, coupons and gift card: $19.04

Percentage saved: 58%

Here’s what I bought in my second trip:

  • 2 Monterey Ricotta Spinach Ravioli
  • 2 Kellogg’s Crunchy Nut cereal
  • 1 pint organic grape tomatoes
  • 1 bag tangerines (3 lbs)
  • 1 Publix light sour cream
  • 2 Persian limes
  • 1 organic baby spinach
  • 1 bag organic Russet potatoes (5 lbs)
  • 2 Arnold multigrain bread
  • 1 Kettle reduced fat potato chips

Total before sales and coupons: $46.44

Savings break-down:
Store and competitor coupons used: $6.00
Manufacturer’s coupons used: $4.90
Savings from sale prices: $15.25

Total after sales and coupons: $20.29

Percentage saved: 56%

TRANSACTION TOTALS COMBINED

Total before sales and coupons: $91.63

Savings break-down:
Store and competitor coupons used: $11.00
Manufacturer’s coupons used: $6.70
Savings from sale prices: $24.60

Total after sales and coupons: $39.33

Percentage saved: 57%

Recap:

I’m still not feeling so great from a stomach bug I had yesterday afternoon and evening :( so I’m not adding any extra tips this week.  Check out last week’s post for lots of great tips for using coupons.  Feel free to ask questions below or on my Facebook page.  Have a great weekend!

Weekly Totals: 49% Grocery Savings & $20 Earned in Free Gift Cards!

This is a weekly series where I show you how much I save on my grocery and household needs, including as many natural and organic items as possible.

This week there was some very specific strategy involved in my shopping trip at Publix.  Reading that aloud, I realize it sounds ridiculous to the average person, but there’s nothing ridiculous about getting $20 worth of gift cards for free in addition to my almost-50% grocery savings.  Publix’s last ad had a coupon for a free $10 Publix gift card wyb (when you buy) $100 or more in groceries.  The total only had to be $100 before coupons, so I easily spent much less and still earned a $10 gift card.

I also had a Publix coupon booklet called “Start Your Year Out with Big Savings” that offered a $10 Publix gift card (rebate by mail) wyb $35 or more of participating Kimberly-Clark products.  Originally I didn’t plan to utilize that rebate but we needed several items that were participating products, and again, the total only had to be $35 before coupons.  There were store and manufacturer coupons for almost all of the items, so I got a pretty good deal and will get another $10 gift card after I mail in the rebate form.

I don’t often break my shopping trip into more than one transaction, but I did this week.  Everything is pictured together below, but I’m including extra information about the transactions below, to help you see a better breakdown of the savings.

Here’s what I bought this week at Publix (sorry it’s hard to see everything!):

1st transaction:

  • 1 Angel Soft 9 double rolls toilet paper
  • 2 Nature’s Path organic waffles
  • 1 Sabra hummus 4-pack
  • 1 Oikos organic Greek yogurt 4-pack
  • 4 HappyBaby/HappyTot organic fruit/veggie puree pouches
  • 1 box Sunmaid raisins
  • 1 package Publix mini-boxes of raisins
  • 1 pint blueberries
  • 2 YoBaby organic yogurt 4-packs
  • 1 GogoSqueez 4-pack applesauce pouches
  • 2 Publix organic blue corn tortilla chips
  • 1 Eatsmart veggie sticks
  • 1 box Truvia
  • 2 Sargento slice cheese
  • 2 Sargento shredded cheese
  • 2 bags sundried tomatoes
  • 1 half-gallon Publix 1% milk
  • 2 half-gallons Silk Almond milk
  • 1 Salmon fillet (approx 1 lb)
  • 1 Publix-brand face cleanser
  • 1 Organic Valley organic half and half
  • 1 liter Publix club soda
  • 3.32 lbs bananas
  • 2 Sominex (free + money maker)
  • 6 Beech Nut applesauce (free + money maker)
  • 1 Earth Balance buttery spread
  • 1 Beech Nut toddler graham snacks

Total before sales and coupons: $131.74

Savings break-down:
Store and competitor coupons used: $30.50
Manufacturer’s coupons used: $19.58
Savings from sale prices: $17.76

Total after sales and coupons: $63.90

Percentage saved: 51%

2nd transaction:

  • 1 box Huggies diapers (not pictured)
  • 4 Scott paper towels
  • 2 Scott wipes
  • 1 Huggies wipes

Total before sales and coupons: $38.02

Savings break-down:
Store and competitor coupons used: $12.00
Manufacturer’s coupons used: $3.00
Savings from sale prices: $0

Total after sales and coupons: $23.02

Percentage saved: 39%

TRANSACTION TOTALS COMBINED

Total before sales and coupons: $169.76

Savings break-down:
Store and competitor coupons used: $42.50
Manufacturer’s coupons used: $22.58
Savings from sale prices: $17.76

Total after sales and coupons: $86.92

Percentage saved: 49%

Plus, I earned two $10 Publix gift cards!  :)

Recap:

I wanted to earn the free $10 gift card wyb $100 or more in groceries, but wanted to spend as little out of pocket as possible.  Here are some strategies I used; maybe you will learn a little something new.  ;)

  1. Utilize coupons for free products at a time that most benefits you.  When I have a coupon for a free product, I use it before it expires, but at a time that will get me the best deal.  If it’s for an item that goes on sale BOGO then I wait to use it when the item is BOGO and then I get two items free instead of just one.  If it’s not an item that goes on sale BOGO then I use it on a week where I need to reach a certain purchase minimum, like this week.  I had free product coupons for the Earth Balance buttery spread ($4.09) and Beech Nut graham snacks ($2.09) that put me $6.18 closer to a $100 total (before coupons), without actually adding any cost to my total oop (out of pocket).
  2. Utilize moneymaker items for overage.  Little Bug doesn’t eat baby food anymore but the Beech Nut baby food jars added $1.65 to my total while making me a profit of $.35 after coupons.  The Sominex added $6.38 to my total while making me a profit of $.62.  I’ll give the baby food to a friend and will donate the Sominex to a nursing home or someone that will use them.
  3. Utilize multiple coupons for $ off your total purchase.  I had a $5/30 Publix coupon that came in the mail recently, as well as one of these $5/30 Winn-Dixie coupons (that deal is no longer available but I’ll try to post if/when I see it again) that I use almost every week.  Since I was spending more than $60 before coupons on the first transaction, I was able to use both coupons to take $10 off my total before any of my other coupons.  I don’t often break my shopping trip into multiple purchases, but by doing a second transaction that totaled more than $30 before coupons, I was able to use another $5/30 WD coupon and save $5 more off my total.

Those are just a few tips for maximizing your efforts with couponing.  If you have questions to fill in any gaps for how I use coupons, please feel free to ask questions in the comments section below.  Have a great week!

Weekly Totals: 62% Grocery Savings With Organics & Great Freebies!

This is a weekly series where I show you how much I save on my grocery and household needs, including as many natural and organic items as possible.

Yes, I’m still here.  Time to blog is harder to come by these days, so I’m only blogging when I can.  I didn’t post the last couple of weeks of grocery savings even though I did still save 50% or more both weeks, but I wanted to post my trip from today while I have a few minutes.  If you’re in a busier season of life (like I am right now) I hope my grocery posts remind you that it IS possible to save 50% or more on your groceries, even with buying many organic, all-natural and healthy items.  I love weeks when I can save more than 50%, even with buying a good amount of organic products.  Lately I’m focusing my organic produce choices mostly on the “dirty dozen” – the twelve produce items with the highest traces of pesticide – to help my family eat more organics without breaking the budget.  I also grabbed some great freebie deals today.  Gotta love free!  Here’s what I bought today at Publix:

Run-down:

  • 2 Garden of Eatin’ organic corn chips
  • 2 Arnold 100% whole wheat bread
  • 2 Fiber One cereal
  • 4 Method dish soap
  • 2 All Small & Mighty laundry detergent
  • 1 Publix canned organic black beans
  • 2 Newman’s Own all-natural salsas
  • 1 Almond Breeze almond milk
  • 1 Jiff natural peanut butter
  • 1 Gogo Squeez applesauce pouch 4-pack
  • 2 Tam-x-ico whole wheat tortillas
  • 1 pint blueberries
  • 2 Starkist chunk light tuna pouches
  • 1 Publix sour cream 16 oz
  • 2 Kraft shredded cheese 8 oz
  • 1 bunch organic cauliflower
  • 3 lbs yellow onions
  • 2.92 lbs bananas
  • 1 Organic Girl baby spinach
  • 4 boxes Jones all-natural turkey sausage
  • 2 Mentos UP2U gum
  • 1 Schick Hydro 5 razor

Total before sales and coupons: $123.05

Total after sales and coupons: $46.28

Percentage saved: 62%

Recap:

I thought some of you might find it helpful to know which things were free after coupons.  Two of the Method dish soaps were free after coupons (the other two were $.50 each after coupons).  The two boxes of Fiber One cereal were more than free, making me a profit of $.50 that applied to the other items in my grocery cart (a.k.a. overage).  If you prefer, you can think of that overage as another coupon towards something else I bought, like $.50 off my organic spinach, for example.  The two packs of gum were on sale for $1 and I had $1 off coupons making them free.  I also had a free product coupon for the Schick razor (Regular price $9.99) that came in the mail a while back.  I think it came to my husband so I don’t think it was a freebie offer I saw online…just a really good piece of mail.  All in all, not a bad week!
